Sketches:Inspiration Dresses:Building Process:Finished piece:Reflection:This piece was a big learning experience. I have found that I probably will never do dress making again. I enjoyed it but it is a lot of work. I had only used a pattern once before and it was something small so this was a big challenge. I had many problems throughout the piece. I wanted to have flowers throughout the dress that was flowed down. The problem I found that the blue roses I made didn’t go with the dress since it already had to different fabrics. So I had to compromise but making small flowers that only went around the waist adding jewels to it. There was also the problem of plettes since I had never done them before. This dress took weeks to get done because of both size and finding time to make it. I wanted to do this piece because when I had intermediate 3-D I made a dress. I wanted o be able to experiment with fashion again but with actual sewing not clay. I also had the challenge of not having glue with the jewels so I had get some type of glue for fabric that could help me apply it. I learned so much from this dress. I learned the difficulty of even making dresses gaining me respect for fashion designers. I also learned things like simplistic fashion isn’t bad.

Beautiful Dress Nikki! I love how you pulled your project into a real world need and how that pushed you toward this caliber of quality. A great piece, especially so early in your sewing career!
